Our programs combine the best of both worlds, and students come away with more than just a classroom exercise of pretend. In addition, skills learned by the class become the genesis of a form of synergy (in a common activity), which is based on something other than solely from within the classroom. The field experience having a longer-lasting impact, we see longer termed effects of prolonged improvement in communications, team spirit and productivity.
Sea kayaking, being an adventurous activity, is an ideal medium to conduct outdoor adventure learning programs. It has an easy entry level for participants, swimmers and non-swimmers alike and it combines fun, excitement, uncertainty and challenge. All the essential elements to a rounded outdoor adventure learning program. Sea kayaking depends on mutual support and trust in fellow paddlers to maintain that vital safety margin. Teamwork and trust are essential elements.
Our kayaking program does not only cover the basic syllabus for Singapore Canoe Federation 1 & 2-STAR certification. Our goal is to develop actual confidence and competence for the student to engage in kayaking himself. Our program therefore, includes other subject matter beyond the set syllabus that empowers students to actually take a kayak out for short near-shore expeditions.

In many ways, trekking represents the ultimate expression of the outdoor life. Trekking really is self-reliance taken to the Nth degree. Trekking, including fell-running, in essence, requires no more equipment than a sturdy pair of shoes. In fact, classical trekking, whereby we carry all our own gear and provisions, limits the amount of equipment we can comfortably carry, and requires of each outdoors-person a strong sense of ingenuity. Navigation equipment, broken down to it's simplest (and lightest) form are a map and compass, and the brains and training wherewithal to use these in the myriad possible ways to orienteer ourselves over ground.
However, the ultimate beauty of trekking is that it takes only a day to learn enough to begin, and does not require one to be super fit or a "Jungle Jim" to enjoy. It is truly a pursuit for students of all ages.
In this hot and humid weather, nothing is better than spending a few days floating down a river, taking frequent plunges into the cool water and camping along the riverbank. But this river includes lots of excitement. Some 36 rapids make this trip anything but boring. Ranging from easy Grade 1s to a really cool grade 3+, the rapids are enough to be fun without the "Fear Factor."
Safety is paramount with at least 1 guide per raft and, in the case of complete beginners to the outdoor life, 2 guides to one raft. Our staff includes trained first-aiders, and may also include a wilderness nurse/EMT/paramedic as an option. Safety equipment includes satellite telephones, throw-ropes, a motorized support craft, flares 24-hour medical consultation via radio-phone and logistics for emergency evacuation. This program is suitable for both motivational and leisure adventure for students.
Adventure is not just about the effort and process of getting to one’s destination. It is also about experiencing another culture, leaning to look at this wonderful world through different eyes.
Asian Detours endeavors to imbue every program we run with some element of discovery about the world around us. Some programs are inherently discovery programs, such as our literature trip around Cumbria and the Lake District, or our Art History program around Angkor. But even our half-day kayaking “expedition” provides some background into how water sustains life on Earth, and the important part mangroves play in our eco-system. These are all valuable first-hand experiences that students can learn from places outside the classroom.
Allow students to experience a whole new world underwater! Our Scuba Diving programs introduces participants to scuba diving in a highly supervised and relaxed manner. It dispels common misconceptions about scuba by letting individuals try it for themselves. Under the guidance of our professional instructors, new divers learn basic safety concepts, put on equipment and swim around underwater in a closely supervised confined environment.
Most cycling is done on paved roads but the real joy is in the myriad trails and paths that cyclists can take in seemingly endless loops. Students will experience crossing bridges, cycling atop earthen bunds and technical trails. Beginners are welcome to start on an easier grassy field - the only requirement is a willingness to try and.. taking a couple of knocks and bumps!
Our Start Windsurfing Course has been created specially for students that are new to the sport of windsurfing. This 5-day course is designed for complete beginners and consists of simulator training, on-water coaching and theory.

This is an excellent team activity that teaches students practical skills and problem solving. They will be challenged to construct functional items like tables, chairs and gadgets. This is a good learning opportunity for the students to interact to achieve a common goal.
Innovation and entrepreneurship is all about getting off the established trail, and moving in unfamiliar territory. Through Orienteering, students will move about in small groups and learn to get from place to place using maps, compasses and very brief descriptions. They will be forced to use innovative methods and their observation skills to get to their destination.
